| RSC-2024 with this module, manufacturers of GPS Navigation systems can easily and transparently incorporate the reception of TMC data in their system by just replacing the current GPS module they use for the new one. The new module does not take more space than a normal one and is fully compatible with existing solutions.
TMC (Traffic Message Channel) is a part of the RDS (Radio Data System) standard. This data is broadcasted – unhearable - on the FM radio band. Many popular car radio systems use this RDS data to show useful information on the radio screen. TMC is a part of RDS that is especially designed to provide real-time information about the current traffic and weather situation. The data contains information about the locations and lengths of traffic jams, and other important information concerning traffic or weather, collected and aggregated by many European semi-governmental organizations. TMC is broadcasted free of charge in many European countries and USA is an integral part of the traffic management policies and regulations of the European Union.
When this TMC data is combined with GPS satellite data in a navigation system, the system can be designed in such a way that it can re-route around traffic jams, calculate the quickest route to the destination or can anticipate on the current traffic situation in real time.
Currently available TMC enabled portable navigation systems contain the TMC reception hardware in a separate combined GPS/TMC receiver, in a cable, or in a car holder. This integrated module however can just replace the current GPS receiving module, and therefore is very easily integrated in any navigation product. Moreover, it utilizes LOCOSYS Advance TMC Protocol that is free to use for everyone. No licensing cost is involved for any party who uses this protocol.
The TMC functionality is implemented completely transparent. Both GPS signal and TMC data streams are integrated in the standard NMEA protocol. That means that most available navigation systems will run with the module. Of course the software will not be able to utilize these traffic features when it is not designed to function with the TMC hardware, but it will just ignore this information. Several from the top-10 Navigation Software companies are preparing their software to support this feature.
This module RSC-2024 can be GPS only module by taking out FM tuner IC. Then the product name becomes SC-2024. |
